My wife and I just got back from spending 12 days touring Italy, and it was the trip of a lifetime! We’ve been to various parts of Europe before, and went to Greece on our honeymoon, so we weren’t sure if Italy would be all that different….wrong! What’s great about Italy is each area you visit is completely different from the next. From canals to ancient ruins to cliffside towns to islands to vineyards; it’s all there. I took a ton of photos (imagine that), and here are just a few of our favorites. Most come from my DSLR, though some are iPhone and some are point-and-shoot. I think they all capture the beauty of Italy though. Enjoy!
We started our trip in Venice. I wasn’t sure what to think since I’ve heard mixed reviews, but honestly this may have been my favorite part of the trip. Maybe it was the experience of seeing this place first after getting off the plane or the magic this city has. Either way, just amazing…
Photo shoot :)
From Venice we took a vaporetto to the nearby island of Burano, which is a tiny little town filled with canals and colorful buildings. So cool!
From Venice we took the train to Florence…
After Florence we rented a car and drove to San Gimignano, a really cool medieval castle town on a hill in the middle of Tuscany.
Yes…I carry a tripod and remote trigger with me at all times :)
Tuscan sunrise…
I’ve always wanted to visit the Amalfi Coast, and I finally made it. From San Gimignano we headed to Positano. Just gorgeous. It reminded us a lot of Santorini, Greece, but still unique and very Italian.
Luckily we had enough time built-in to our stay in Positano that we were able to make a day-trip to nearby Capri, a beautiful island right off the coast with breathtaking views.
Looking down from Via Krupp, a windy little walkway that dumps you into the crystal clear water. For some stupid reason we didn’t walk all the way down and jump in…next time :)
Soaking it in…
Sunset on the boat back to Positano.
From Positano we drove back up to Naples, but decided last-minute to make a quick stop in Pompeii to check it out.
Final stop: Rome.
Inside of St. Peter’s Basilica. It’s impossible to explain the enormity of this place. Absolutely incredible.
Sunset with the dome of St. Peter’s on the horizon.
We had SUCH an incredible time! Now if we need a vacation from our vacation…
