Ahhh, there’s always something so magical to me about late-summer weddings! Kara & Brett’s was no exception. They were married at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church in Wexford, with a beautiful wedding reception at the Pittsburgh Airport Marriott. We swung by the columns at the Mellon Institute and over to the Cathedral of Learning. From the bride:
Our First Date:
Believe it or not we met on a blind date in November 2013. My friend Alli told me that she wanted to set me up with this guy, Brett. Brett was friends with her boyfriend, Chuck. We talked about it for a few weeks, but I was still a little hesitant. She showed me a picture of him beforehand and apparently Chuck had shown Brett a picture of me, as well. We finally agreed to set up a date the weekend before Thanksgiving. Alli and Chuck joined us for our first date hoping to make it a little less awkward. We ate at a restaurant in Shadyside, but neither of us can remember the name of it to this day! During dinner we had both taken turns to get up and go to the bathroom, and during each bathroom break we got grilled with questions by Alli and Chuck! After dinner we all decided to head to Steel Cactus for some drinks. I was texting with my brother, Tyler, and had found out that he was also headed to Shadyside to go out with some friends. I told everyone that Tyler was on his way and was going to meet up with us. I really didn’t think it was a big deal at the time, but I later found out Brett was shaking in his boots! I think he expected some big, intimating brother to show up and put him in his place. Then he met Tyler and his mind was put to ease! At the end of the night Brett said he wanted to get my number, but his phone died. I sure wasn’t going to get his number and have the responsibility of texting him so I told him to get my number from Chuck. He did and texted me the next day. We had our second date 3 days later and the rest is history!
Our Engagement:
Brett and I were on vacation in Fort Lauderdale when he decided to pop the question! We got to Florida on Saturday and were beachin’ it every day. On Tuesday, July 25, 2017, Brett told me he made dinner reservations at the Boatyard for 7 PM. After getting ready for dinner, our plan was to have a drink on the patio outside of the hotel. We grabbed some drinks and headed outside. I remember turning to set my glass of wine down, when a woman approached us and said she was a photographer and was taking pictures for the hotel’s website. She wanted to get some pictures of us, but requested we go down to the beach since she already had a lot of photos on the patio. In that moment a few thoughts crossed my mind – 1. I had a full glass of wine to drink before dinner and we didn’t have much time to make it to dinner! 2. I just showered and I didn’t want to get all sandy! I looked at Brett, and he said, “Let’s just do it!” I should have known something was up. I LOVE getting pictures, but he HATES getting pictures. After we agreed to get some pictures with her, we headed down to the beach and walked over to a more secluded area. On our walk over, she looked at Brett and said, “What’s your name again?” At this point, I’m still not thinking anything is up. But, I sure was excited to tell our family and friends we were going to be on the hotel’s website! After she took a few pictures of us, she asked us to face one another and then it all clicked. Brett got down on one knee and proposed! Our photographer was able to capture every special moment from that night! We then had an engagement shoot on the beach right after the proposal. We still made it to dinner that night, but our reservations were actually much later. The next day we woke up at 6 AM for a road trip to Key West. Needless to say, I didn’t sleep a wink from all of the excitement! Brett on the other hand got the best sleep of his life! It was a vacation that will be tough to beat!
