I recently had the fortunate opportunity to second shoot and assist the extremely nice and talented Leeann Marie Golish (check out her website…she’s awesome) at a wedding at Rolling Acres Golf Course in Beaver Falls, PA. It was the perfect venue for a wintery wedding – warm fireplaces, a log-cabin country feel, Christmas trees and decorations, and of course a very much in love bride and groom. The ceremony was a little later in the day so Leeann had them do a “first look” photo session beforehand. First looks are such a great idea from the photography perspective – you get to enjoy the daylight as much as possible, and the photographer really has a chance to capture the bride and groom’s natural reactions when they see each other for the first time. I say “natural” reactions because sure, it’s always great to see the groom’s face light up when he sees his bride walking towards him down the aisle, but usually they hold their excitement in and let the ceremony get started. Having a first look allows the couple to hug and kiss each other and just be all happy and excited together without worrying about a room full of people staring at them. It’s certainly not for everyone, but it has its place. The Timberhouse at the golf course was decorated beautifully, and what I loved was that the ceremony and reception hall was in the same warm and inviting room. They can move the chairs and setup the dinner tables in 20 minutes. I love this shot during their first look, you can really get a feel for how perfect the venue was for a fun wintery wedding: I give props to the bride and groom for braving the freezing cold weather to get a few fun outdoor shots. I think it really paid off. It wasn’t hard getting shots of them holding each other close, it was obvious how much they love each other. Their nephew was always there to help and was never more than a few feet away. Keep scrolling down to see him tearing it up on the dance floor :) The ceremony was beautiful and really tailored to the bride and groom. You know it’s a good ceremony when there are equal amounts of tears and laughter. First dance… This one might be my favorite – you can see the emotion and you really get a good feel for how much in love they are. To them, they’re the only ones in the room. There was no shortage of great dancers tearin’ it up… A few of my favorite details:
